School Latrine Upgrade
Staff and students at the school identified latrines as a priority project in 2014. PODA funded this project. Materials and labor were sourced locally to construct a new “six-stand” latrine – that’s right, no seats!. In 2015 we will be raising funds to add a shower room and a laundry room.
Barb is off to Portland the last week of January to do a presentation to West Union Elementary School. Staff and students at West Union will be partnering with the Bwera School – now with the new name, Mpondwe Lhubiriha Secondary School (MLSS) – over the next school term to create a bridging art project. We will keep you updated on this new partnership.
New School Year
The new school term begins on Monday, February 2nd, at MLSS. There are 100 students registered this term. The teacher gender balance continues to improve with three female teachers ready to begin the new term. We are excited to be partnering with Ideba Marketing Inc., based in Portland, whose sponsorship will give each student a solar lantern and school supplies. In addition, Ideba will be providing supplies to create an art program and the beginning of a science laboratory.
