OppArt2011

Oct 22, 2011 – DaVinci Centre, 195 Bay St – Vic West side of Bay St Bridge

Music, bar and viewing at 6pm. Main event begins at 7pm.
Light canapés will be served through this after-dinner event.

$200 per lottery ticket, which guarantees one piece of art (see oppart.ca)
$20 entry for spectators

Join us for a unique art lottery gala benefiting the development of a school and community centre in Bwera, Western Uganda – a project of Partnerships for Opportunity Development Association (PODA).

Why is it a lottery? There are 100 pieces of outstanding art and 100 lottery numbers. Throughout the evening, lottery numbers will be drawn at random. When your number is drawn you will get to choose a preferred piece from those that remain – and, unlike a regular lottery, every lottery ticket holder goes home with a piece of art.

What is happening? From 6pm, view the artworks and mingle with the PODA team and supporters. Enjoy live music, our locally-sourced cash bar and complimentary canapés prepared by celebrated local chefs Anna Hunt and Phil Lecours. The main event will follow a short presentation on the success of the 2010/11 project in Bwera – largely funded by OppArt 2010. Along with the art lottery, several spectacular “experience packages” will be auctioned.

In 2010, PODA built a permanent school in partnership with our local partner organization, a team of local workers, and 20 Canadian volunteers. The project was a major success – with careful planning and execution, the team was able to the construct an additional school building. The school now accommodates upwards of 500 secondary students during the day and, equipped with solar panels, functions as a community cultural centre and adult education facility in the evening. The project promotes capacity-building for our partner organization; teacher training to strengthen the quality of education at the school; course curriculum development; gender equality; and local employment.

Join us for this year’s Opp Art Event to build on these successes.

Hit the Tap
In category PODA Blog

On September 20th-26th, 2010, please join local restaurants Fiamo Italian Kitchen, Swans Brewpub, Tapa Bar, The Reef and The Noodle Box in supporting the building of the Bwera Vocational Secondary School and Cultural Center.

When you dine at one of these amazing restaurants during this week you will be given the chance to donate $1 for a glass of tap water, something you would normally get for free.  100% of the proceeds from Hit the Tap will go towards the building of the school and cultural center, which will accommodate up to 800 kids who otherwise would not have the chance to go to school.

By paying an optional $1 for your glass of water you will be helping kids to realise the dream of education.

Swans, Fiamo, Tapa Bar, The Noodle Box and The Reef have generously collaborated with PODA to raise money for the vocational school and cultural center.  We ask you join them in their generosity!  For more information please contact Colleen at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
